BLINDBOY BURLESQUE

ABOUT THE ACT

Clare Voyeur discovered The Blindboy Podcast at the beginning of the pandemic. It brought her a lot of joy and comfort during that time, as she was hating being an artist out of work and off stage due to the shut downs. Since Vancouver is filled with Irish people, it made perfect sense to Clare to appeal to them with a savage parody act of Blindboy, who is considered an Irish national treasure. This is not a typical  burlesque act in any sense, rather a meta comedy tribute that lasts 14 mins instead of the typical 5 mins. Clare spent more than 60 hours just on the audio editing for this act, piecing together words and phrases from many of his podcasts. Hilariously, this is one of her most glamorous act to date, including feather fans and a whack of rhinestones - a perfect dichotomy for a man that wears a plastic bag on his head. You don't need to have listened to The Blindboy Podcast to enjoy this act, simply for how engaging and entertaining it is, though in the end you'll most definitely give it a listen. This act and concept is a true labour of love for Clare and wild art piece that continually evolves.

MORE BLINDBOY WORK

Clare is inspired by the concept of making comedy and art based on Blindboy's aesthetic and persona as an "ongoing art project." For some unexplainable reason she has a plethora of ideas to parody and pay tribute to the manOccasionally you'll see Clare masked up, making appearances in Irish bars and walking around "County Kits" to promote her show, and making comedy skits just for the craic. Have you seen her Blindboy face tattoo skit? As Clare is a costume/fashion designer, it makes sense she would also create a Blindboy Bag Dress to wear for special occasions. Clare is currently busy in the studio working on another top-secret Blindboy inspired project which is due to debut very soon. Stay tuned!

WHAT'S THE CRAIC - A Night of Irish Devilry

Clare needed somewhere to debut as Blindboy Burlesque so she decided to create a show WHAT'S THE CRAIC - A Night of Irish Devilry.  Having Irish friends and some ancestry to influence her, she wanted to create a show  to celebrate the talents of Irish born performers and those of Irish ancestry or dedication to Irish arts and culture. This variety show includes standup comedy, burlesque, dance, live music, surprise appearances, short films, games and much more! Each round of the show features a new mix of performers. WHAT'S THE CRAIC had its debut on Paddy’s day in 2022 at The Biltmore Cabaret and has grown in size and now runs at The Rio Theatre. Since 2023 the show has been featured as part of Celtic Fest Vancouver's programming and has been a  great success! More news and tickets will be out in 2026!
